MGS is delighted to welcome two new Apprentices onto the “Powered Pedestrian Door Installer and Servicer” Apprenticeship Scheme developed by the Automatic Door Suppliers Association (ADSA) in conjunction with South Staffordshire College.

The new Apprenticeship Standard “Powered Pedestrian Door Installer and Servicer” was developed to provide a formal entry level qualification with a high standard approach to the theory and practical aspects of installing and maintaining powered pedestrian door sets, commonly known as automatic doors.

The automatic door industry rapidly evolved and has become well established as technology advances and legislation, codes of practice and safety standards relating to powered door sets have increased.  The use of automatic doors is far more commonplace across all property types; civic, retail, offices, healthcare, education, passenger transport hubs and more recently within residential properties, as their ability to improve accessibility and comfort for building users is universally recognised.

The Powered Pedestrian Door Technician Apprenticeship delivers the specialist training required to cover the electrical and mechanical knowledge necessary to work on automatic doors.

The Apprenticeship Scheme offers existing employees and new starters a professional path to gain full training in all aspects of installing, servicing, and repairing all types of automatic door and their legislative standards to ensure full safety.

Jason Pease, Managing Director at MGS said, “The launch of the Powered Pedestrian Door Apprenticeship Scheme earlier this year has given MGS the opportunity to be able to help local young people achieve a professional qualification through college and workplace training.

Our industry is built upon the talent and skills of automatic door technicians, and year one of the Apprenticeship scheme provided through South Staffordshire College has been a positive success.  I’m thrilled MGS will continue to be involved as the second cohort of students embark on this specialist training route that will set them onto a stable and rewarding career path.”
